There has been a lot of debate of late in the SEO community as to whether submitting a site to the Yahoo! directory still has any SEO benefit. I can confirm it does. I recently submitted a client’s website to Yahoo! and the results are very positive.
My client’s site was already number 1 in the SEs for its primary keyword phrase and some localised long-tails. Even though the site is location specific as far as ROI is concerned, we still wanted to extend the profile from a marketing prospective because the site wasn’t doing very well for non-location-specific long-tails. I must admit I was a little nervous because of all the rumours in the SEO community, and I warned my client that I couldn’t guarantee there being a positive effect like there used to be for Yahoo! directory submissions. But they wanted to give it a go, so we did. Here are the results for google.co.uk positioning (with web radio button selected), before and two weeks after submitting to the Yahoo! Directory. This is for the top seven non-localised long-tails
| Before | After | Index Position Increase |
| 25 | 16 | 9 |
| 9 | 6 | 3 |
| 14 | 15 | -1 |
| 3 | 1 | 2 |
| 279 | 173 | 106 |
| 5 | 5 | 0 |
| 11 | 5 | 6 |
The results speak for themselves!
