Of late, I have noticed a bad habit that most of us seem to have, and that I believe is the cause of many failures in businesses. That is, that many people assume that others like what they themselves like. In fact, I think we all do this to some extent. (I can’t fathom out how anyone could not love the band Radiohead. I really can’t get my head round it: they’re so good!)
My partner has recently started a card shop. The physical shop has been open for about 3 months and the online shop is to open soon. Some of the cards we ordered simply because we liked them, and it turns out that the cards we liked the most aren’t selling as well as some of the others we ordered. This has been a good lesson for me, and now I’m always mindful that what I like may be hated by others. And the more of an oddball you are, the more this is a danger! I’m sure that many inventions and businesses have failed due to this mistake.
Has anyone seen Radiohead on tour this year? I have – in Manchester. Aren’t they just the best?! We love em and I’m sure you do too
P.S when I just re-read the above it sounds obvious but I think that we all get carried away when we are passionate about something. Logic can go out of the window when we are exited and maybe this is why we should ask for input from other or take a step back and take a look from outside.

It’s wonderful to be passionate about your business - why not, isn’t that why you started your own business? Because you love what you do! We all want others to agree with us, but I do believe the world would be a pretty boring place if we all likes the same things, now wouldn’t it?

Oh sure passion is a great! What I’m saying is we should be mindful of the fact that other may not share that passion. We all know that but can forget it when lost in passion.
